Chat amongst yourselves while I'm away

I thought it would be a good idea for me to be ‘here in spirit’ while I’m away so I’ve put this page up for regulars to discuss all things baizey in my absence.

The European Players Tour Championship event 2 is played from the 1st-3rd October in Bruges and the drawsheet can be viewed here. So feel free to post up your thoughts on the event.

Unfortunately the only comments that will get through on this thread will be from those of you that include your email address in the box provided and have posted from that address before. Any others will simply be invisible to everyone but me when I get back.

Hopefully the newly launched World Snooker scoreboard will be available throughout this event, if so you will be able to report back on what you think of it.

Ali is playing in this, so all together now ‘GO THE CAPTAIN!!’

Best of Luck for the EPTC if punting and I’ll be back on the 2nd before the finals day.

  10. (Just in case you haven’t seen the other comments section) In the absence of snookerbacker (although he doesn’t like the premier league anyway) here are what I think are good selections for tonight’s premier league matches http://redandblackblog.wordpress.com/

  11. Yeah, I guess I just don’t like the “draw” factor. I’d prefer to see a winner in each and every match, and the fact that they play all six frames regardless if it’s 4-0 bugs me a little.
What about, to keep it’s own identity, keep the shotclock, but play three best of 5′s a night. Instead of a guaranteed 12 frames, you’d have between 9 and 15 each night – and with 3 matches a night, you could increase the league to 8 players intead of 7.

  12. Well, frankly speaking, I like it the way it is. The six-frame format and the shot clock are the specificities of this competition. I agree with Barry Hearn that (almost) each competition has to have its own ‘personality’. (Of course, who wouldn’t like to earn 1000 pounds for a frame or for a ton, but we can’t have that in the other events. ;) ) The seven players in the PL are supposed to be the ‘crème de la crème’ so why make their life easier when they actually CAN solve more difficult problems and play better than the others (to our sometimes sadistic ;) ) joy?!…

  14. After seeing the World Open, anyone think that the Premier League might be better if each match was best of 5 with no shot clock? Personally, I think this would be a massive improvement.

  15. It seems there is never a dull moment at the minute in Snooker, more tourneys can only be good for the game, the viewing public and the players in general.

I just hope it continues, I reserve my judgement on the upcoming “Power Snooker” but on the whole I thought the World Open was a success and the PTC events have been good for the lesser know players.

The next year or so will be interesting to say the least.

It aint half quiet around here when SB is away.

  16. No real surprise here from Messrs Ebdon, Dunn, and King. There’s very little the last two of them can do to make me waste any time thinking about it, but oh dear, so terribly, terribly disappointed in Messrs Carter and Gould. Short sightedness is a very kind way of putting it, Deco. What a pathetically frustrated little group to support a pathetically frustrated man! What are Messrs Carter and Gould doing in this mess? What do they want? To bring back the gloriously golden times of 6 events per season and scant money?!

Decisions, actions, choices >> self-portrait. We’re getting pretty funny results sometimes, aren’t we, Messrs Carter and Gould?….

  17. SB, hope you enjoyed your honeymoon. Maybe you could ask Ali what he is hoping to achieve by backing the call for an emergency EGM for his next Captain’s Log?
I would like to hear his justification for giving the headline writers more ammo for their ‘snooker in turmoil’ stories. Likewise, I know Mike Dunn is a follower of this blog, so it would be good to hear exactly what the players who have put their name to th EGM request are hoping to achieve. My own personal opinion is that some of these players have a very short sighted view of what is good for the sport.
