The Australian Open Continues

Came a Cropper.

Came a Cropper.

As the UK begins to enter what we are told is a heatwave, the potters are all down under continuing in Bendigo while most of us are in bed.

We can’t do anything about the time difference obviously and it’s good that the Aussies have their own event, but not being able to see the majority of the matches does affect the interest levels somewhat.

A few players will wonder why they bothered travelling to the other side of the globe only to be roundly dumped out first round, amongst them Ben Woollaston who came a cropper to wildcard Ridley, Mark Allen who lost to Mark Joyce, Jack Lisowski who managed a highest break of 23 while being walloped by an impressive Judd Trump and of course the World Champion Stuart Bingham, who started his world champions season with a defeat at the hands of Fergal O’Brien.

Joining the list of early casualties was home hope Neil Robertson, who despite a comeback for 4-0 down to Marmite Matt Selt ended up losing in a tense decider and again leaves his homeland potless and wondering whether he’ll ever capture the title he so wants.
