German Masters Live (ish) Blog aka: I think I’ve been hacked

Filed under: snookerbacker @ 10:15 pm

I’m sure I left that beach towel on here….

Zee Germans are taking over this week! But don’t worry: a written “th” is hard to get wrong.

Not much went wrong at the German Masters in Berlin so far. This afternoon Peter Ebdon proved once again how much he likes to annoy his opponents by laying snookers not even the Hawkeye could get out of. Martin Gould proved that he’s capable of losing position after any shot – but he also showed some absolutely amazing recovery shots. And Mark Selby probably proved that he is Mark Selby but you’ve all seen that one on TV, haven’t you?

What you can hardly capture on TV is the atmosphere in the arena. The moment you walk through the door and see the wonderful five-table set-up, the TV table in the middle and the sheer amount of (uncomfortable) seats is nothing else but a magic moment. It’s a moment when everything in the world of snooker just feels right – no matter who’s playing, you simply know you’re going to see snooker at its best at the Tempodrom.

So, while surely everyone here is either blown away by the atmosphere or the little snowstorm we had earlier, my coverage of the German Masters will continue tomorrow – with the latest gossip from behind the scenes.

One more thing, though: after his match against Anthony McGill, Mark Selby told about the things in his life that are much more important than snooker (okay, he didn’t exactly say that but it is kind of *obvious*): When I asked him to describe the colour of his infamous Masters outfit, he went for “burgundy or maybe dark red”.

However, I think we’ll all stick to “plumberginearoon”.
