Grand Finals Day – An Open Invitation

Filed under: snookerbacker @ 10:34 am

Peter and LesThis is just a brief post for anyone who might be considering coming along to the Snookerbacker Classic Grand Finals tomorrow in Leeds to say that you are more than welcome to come and watch what should be a great day’s snooker.

There is no charge to get in, there is a bar with two for one deals on beer, there is decent food and there is great(ish) company so if you have nothing better to do please come along and support your favourite player and the fastest growing amateur snooker event in Europe and possibly the world.

There will also be a celebratory curry afterwards in Leeds City Centre in a little place we know which I hope will entice a few people to make a night of it.

Last year’s winner Martin O’Donnell will be coming along to present the trophy to the new champion and there are plenty of Twitter characters who are coming along too for the ride, some of them being fully signed up members of the Careless Club.

So please take this blog post as an open invitation to attend. If you have never been to the Northern you will love it, it’s the only snooker club that I know of with a painting of both Les Dawson and Bill Maynard within a few feet of each other, what’s not to like?

You can find the directions to the venue by clicking here.

For those that can’t make it, the ground-breaking live scoring system is the place to be to keep in touch with the action, this can be accessed by clicking here and you can read the thoughts of the man behind this great new addition to the tournament here.

Whether you come along or not, thanks for all the positive comments about the Classic this season, it seems to have taken off big style now with both players and the public and is fully embedded into the amateur calendar.

I intend to grow the event further next year and hope to increase the prize money by at least 25% if not more. If you would like to get involved in a sponsorship/advertising deal with the SB Classic next season please contact me as soon as possible at snookerbacker@ymail.com to discuss.

A big thanks to all this year’s partners; John Parrott Cuesports, SWSA, Lake Creative Design, Snooker Scene, My Snooker Stats and ELA for their support.

The next stop is World Snooker and getting the winner an automatic main tour slot next season without the need to qualify through Q-School, come on Jason you know it makes sense….

I hope I’ll see some of you tomorrow, Mrs SB will save you a cake.

Now let’s find our Champion.

  1. Is that mural meant to be Stephen Lee (that time he turned up at the Crucible with a terrible dye job)?

  5. Shame I can’t make the trip from Hamburg, perhaps next year! A very enjoyable day to everyone involved, and fingers firmly crossed for Oli and Sanderson. (Perhaps you’ll be kind enough to say hi from a former regular at the Northern who is probably best remembered for his (back then) ridiculously long dreadlocks and German accent :-) )
