Snookerbacker Classic Gloucester: The Lowdown

Filed under: snookerbacker @ 11:24 am

Friday and Saturday sees a feast of amateur snooker as we find out who will be the four qualifiers from the South West Snooker Academy in Gloucester to join Oliver Lines at the Snookerbacker Classic Finals Day in February in Leeds.

I thought it was as good a moment as any to give all the players and those thinking of coming along to watch the action the lowdown on the event with some frequently asked questions so here goes.

Frequently Asked Questions:

I want to come and watch, can anyone attend?

Yes, anyone can come along and watch the snooker free of charge. You can find a location map showing how to get to the SWSA here.

I’m a player and I am arriving on Thursday, can I practice at the venue?

Yes, but you will need to book ahead on 01452 223214. There are limited tables available but the venue is open until 10pm, the cost is £6 per hour.

What is the dress code for players?

My favourite question!! It’s shirt or polo shirt, trousers and shoes. No trainers or jeans.

Are the matches refereed?

There is a system of roaming referees in place for the early rounds but the two qualifying final matches will be refereed.

How many qualify from each day to Finals Day?

Two players qualify from Friday and two from Saturday. The two qualifiers from Friday are taken out of Saturday’s draw and replaced by two other players, this is all detailed in the Saturday draw page here.

What do the qualifiers win?

Each qualifier will receive a unique piece of artwork which is personalised to the venue courtesy of Zara Daniella. They will also progress into the last 8 of the competition in February.

Can I have one of Mrs SB’s cakes?

Only if you ask politely and behave yourself.

We look forward to seeing the players and anyone who wants to come along there.
