Masters Day One: Favourites Day?

Filed under: snookerbacker @ 12:34 pm

The Defending Champ

It’s here. Day One of one of the top events on the snooker calendar ‘The Masters’ and as is customary now that the wildcard round has been rightly confined to the dustbin, the first match involves the holder, defending champion Mark Selby.

You can read my thoughts on the first round and outright markets for what they are worth here. But suffice to say that it would be something of a shock to see the Jester not come through this opener against Mark King in comfortable fashion.

Then later tonight, friend of the blog and all round good egg Captain Carter takes to the skies against Peter Ebdon. Again, Ali starts a deserved favourite and unless he encounters some unexpected turbulence courtesy of ‘The Force’ we’ll hopefully get to cheer him on further as the week progresses. As I’m going to Wembley on Friday I’d love to see Ali reach at least the semi-finals.

The double on the two pays just on 10/11 and if you fancy this and don’t have an account at new blog sponsors Betfred, open an account by clicking the sidebar (right-handed!) Neil Robertson or click here and take advantage of the £50 free matched bet offer they have there.

If anyone doesn’t have an account there I would advise you to open one as in the coming months blog readers will benefit from enhanced odds, reader offers, requested special bets and the like. They will also be providing all bet prizes for the rest of the season, so what better time to open your account? By clicking the link on here you are also helping to make them even more generous to us!

Hopefully, everyone that wants to get involved has contributed to the Great Blog Bet Pot and Black Whippet I’m sure will be confirming the final members list shortly. Now let’s bash those bookies for another week shall we?

Please feel free to use this thread comments section for today’s discussion on the matches in running.

RESULT: (106) Mark Selby 4-6 Mark King (139)

Great performance from King with Selby looking very out of sorts after a very solid start. It’s fair to say this isn’t the best of starts bettingwise.

RESULT: Ali Carter 5-6 Peter Ebdon

Ebdon beats Ali for the first time. What a very strange day. G’Night JV.

Final Call: Great Blog Bet Pot
