Songs, Puddings and Blue Jokes: It’s Seniors Final Day.

Willie: Telling Dirty Jokes.

By all accounts the World Seniors Championship has been a great success. Big crowds, Willie telling rude jokes, impressions by JV, snooker themed puddings, Ebdon singing, oh, and a bit of snooker too.

Sadly, Peter didn’t choose to sing ‘I am a Clown’ or even ‘Fall of Paradise’ and instead chose to bash out his own unique version of dad rocker band U2’s ‘With or Without You’, well it was certainly without him as he lost in the first match to Nigel Bond who went on to beat Ken but lost last night in the semi-finals to the Nugget.

Steve now awaits the winner of the second semi-final between JP and the Whirlwind. Without wishing to disrespect professional scouser John, I’m sure that the people turning up for their Sunday Roast today will be hoping to wash their Roast Beef and Spuds down with a reprisal of one of the classic world finals, the 1984 tussle between Steve and Jimmy.

You can watch the final stages of that here and then spare a thought for junior snookerbacker who, minutes after it finished stormed up to his bedroom in tears, inconsolable.

It’s a shame that this hasn’t been televised, but I seem to be saying that about everything recently, the PTC’s, the EPTC’s, the qualifiers. But seriously, I flicked through the channels on our TV yesterday and there are whole stations devoted to all kinds of shite. On my Christmas wish list would be a channel devoted to snooker. There is now action every weekend from somewhere or other and in between this there is plenty of archive stuff that could keep us, well me, entertained.

Talking of Christmas, I’ve been busy beavering away over the past week getting ‘giveaway’ prizes for Snookerbacker’s Festive Sack from all sorts of places. Throughout December I’ll be running a series of mini-competitions for all sorts of goodies, ranging from tickets and coaching sessions to free bets from those nasty old bookies. I love Christmas me. If anyone else has anything they would like to offer as a prize then drop me a line, if it’s any good you’ll get a bit of free advertising too.

Accompanying these competitions will be our very own Christmas Snooker Advent Calender which is currently being completed by myself and Mrs SB. You can expect to see some of the top boys as you’ve never seen them before in the run up to the 25th.

Anyway, JP and Jimbo complete their semi final first today and then Jimmy takes on Steve in the final, probably. I ended up backing the Nugget at 9/2 but after thousands of pounds worth of blind faith ploughed into Jimmy over the years it would be just like him to win it. We’ll see.

Semi Final:

Jimmy White 3-2 John Parrott

Final:

Steve Davis 1-4 Jimmy White – Jimmy is the Champ, better late than never!

Jimbo on Twitter: Well it’s taken 30years. It may be seniors but it’s a world title I’m so happy. Thanks for all the support!! Love you all. The wind!
