Barry does it again – New sponsor for China Open

'Have it'

Barry Hearn has pulled strings and fiddled with knobs and again achieved something that his hapless predecessor Sir Rodney Walker failed to do and secured another sponsor, this time for the China Open in March, Sanyuan Foods have stepped in at the eleventh hour. They may not be a household name in the UK but judging by the look on Liang Wenbo’s face when he was confronted with a Pukka Pie in December this is hardly an issue.

Bazza said: “This is our third title sponsorship announcement within the last few weeks and it’s another piece of great news for our sport. Very quickly, we’ve moved from a position of struggling for sponsors, to having one on board for all but one of our televised professional tournaments. China is snooker’s most vibrant growth area and I’m very excited about the commercial potential there, so this announcement is another step forward. We look forward to working with the team at Sanyuan, as well as the CBSA, promoter International Sports Ltd and our other partners, on another successful tournament.”

Sir Rodney Effing lost his head

I don’t think anyone can deny that Barry has the midas touch when it comes to getting people to sign on the dotted line, whether it’s in the lucrative pie industry, with our old friends the bookies or as in this case with a company specialising in amongst other things high-temperature milk (sounds delicious – anyone know where I can get some?)

It makes you wonder why the players perservered with Sir Rodney for so long when clearly he didn’t have the head for the challenge.
